Adult Day Services — Sports Programs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These programs have grown out of suggestions by participants who expressed interest in learning specific skills. Each program includes skill building components through group discussions, theory review and hands on practice. Participants are encouraged to share their areas of expertise by mentoring and supporting one another.

Adventures Club
This program is designed for those that love adventure: skating, climbing a rock wall, balancing on a high ropes course are just some of the activities offered.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bocce
CHIRS runs two Bocce programs each week. Ball ramps are available to assist those with physical challenges. The CHIRS Bocce team has won the Division B Youth Bocce Tournament of Canada five years consecutively.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bowling
CHIRS runs three bowling programs each week across Toronto. Adaptive aids are used to address physical or visual challenges. Participants are able to work on developing their techniques in a fun environment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sports Nights
This program offers individuals the opportunity to play a variety of sports including basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer and floor hockey. Adaptations are made to rules, game pace and equipment in order to allow all participants to play and compete in a fun and safe environment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baseball
This program allows participants to be a part of a team as well as work on individual skills. Players have the opportunity to compete in a number of tournaments with other teams. Adaptive equipment is available for those with physical challenges.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Swimming
CHIRS offers two swim programs and has partnered with the City of Toronto Adapted Aquatics Department to offer a third. In order to address the safety and personal needs of the registrants, all individuals undergo a swim assessment prior to participating. Based on the assessment, individualized programs are developed to assist the participant to work toward their identified goals. Programs can include stroke techniques, gait, mobility, balance, flexibility and strengthening.

All Adult Day Service programs require registration. Please contact the CHIRS Intake Department to register. Participants accessing Adult Day Service programs need to be independent for all transportation and personal support requirements, as one to one assistance is not available. Participants who require additional support are welcome to bring a family member or attendant. Please note that programs may be added or changed in response to participant feedback.
