Mission
CHIRS seeks to enable persons living with the effects of
an acquired brain injury to maximize their potential for independent living by
providing them and their families with ongoing support in the community.
Philosophy
Recognizing the fundamental rights and potential of all
citizens, CHIRS provides services for persons who have sustained an acquired
brain injury based on the following beliefs, that:
-
all individuals have a right to education, a secure home life of their own
choosing, and opportunities for meaningful work and recreation
-
all
individuals have the right to be supported on the basis of their own unique
needs and abilities
-
services be sufficiently flexible, adaptable and secure in terms of adjusting to the
individual's personal choice and need for learning and adaptation
-
services,
supports and life opportunities be provided to correspond as much as possible
with the individual's community environment and in
a manner which enhances the individual's well-being, dignity, self-respect, and
physical and emotional security
-
individuals have access to the full range of
experiences offered by their community
-
individuals
develop as full citizens and responsible community members only when supported
to direct their lives and destinies through their
own interests, aspirations and links with the community.
